Have a look at the phrases below and then try to find or think of some more useful phrases. |
The important thing is to get the names correct of course, and then possibly explain a little about the other person, or mention something they have in common.
A common way to introduce somebody is simply to say:

"This is Becky and this is Andrea, I don't know if you two have met." |
Or:
|
"I'd like you to meet my brother Peter, Andrea. This is Peter and this is Andrea. I believe you are both interested in parachuting." |
Or you can explain a little:
|
"Oh, Andrea, this is my friend Becky from Albequerque that I told you about last week. And Becky this is my colleague Andrea." |
Then you can leave them alone, for instance saying:

"I am sorry, I have to go check on the steak." |
(That is if you are the host or hostess of course...)
If you recognize somebody at the other end of the room you can say:

"Excuse me, I have to go and say hello to my old teacher." |
When you are going to leave it is appropriate to say that it has been a pleasure meeting somebody:
|
"It was nice meeting you." |
