Academic Writing

When writing academic reports or other formal texts you should use a correct language. The main objective is to be clear and concise so that your reader can follow your argument easily and is not distracted (or irritated) by irrelevant padding.  

In academic writing certain things are not accepted.

• Do not make spelling mistakes with the most common 200 words (see Checklist).
• Do not make contractions, i.e. instead of writing 'don’t' and 'he’s' you write 'do not' and 'he is'.
• Do not use gonna, gotta or wanna; this is spoken English.
