Summary/Abstract
When you have finished your essay/report you must write
a summary or abstract of the whole report. This means that the
reader will find a concentrated version of the report here.
The
Summary or Abstract must contain the following information:
- Purpose: What have you been trying to do? What
questions did you want to find answers to? What was the problem?
- Completion: How did you do it? Here you state what method you
have used, e.g. reading literature, searching for information
on the Internet, interviewing people. Did you have to limit
the subject?
- Results:
What have you achieved? Did you find answers to all your questions?
- Conclusion: Can you draw some conclusions from your results?
The most important thing that you have to remember about the Summary
or Abstract is that you cannot write it before the report is finished
and that you must state purpose, completion, results and perhaps
also conclusion.
Now your report/essay is finished. Before you hand
it in, read the checklist to
make sure you have not forgotten anything.
