The Assignments

This course contains 8 assignments, and here you'll find them all briefly described. Each assignment is worth 10 points. The remaining 20 points come from the workshops. For further details on the different assignments, click the links to view the respective pages.

Below you can read about the assignments. We recommend you to do them according to the suggested order.

Planning your studies (10 points):
The very first thing to do is planning. You need to sit down and make a schedule for your own studies. You might find it handy to use the suggested study plan.

Autobiography (10 points):
Write a short (1 - 2 double-spaced pages) essay about yourself.

Listening exercises (10 points):
Listen to the different recordings according to the instructions and answer the questions.

Grammar (10 points):
There are eleven different areas of grammar and each area has a small quiz that you're supposed to do. You don't have to do them all at once, spread them over the time you have planned to spend on the course. Just make sure that you do them all. Of course there are exercises within the grammar areas too and we recommend you to do the exercises before you do the quizzes.

The reader (10 points):
During the course you are supposed to work with a reader called Progress Topics. Read all the texts marked with R. Your written assignment contains two small parts; write five questions to one text and publish them in the Discussion group and answer the questions that two of your fellow students have written on other texts. Those answers are also supposed to be published in the Discussion group.

The essay (10 points):
Write an essay (2 - 3 double-spaced pages) about something that you're interested in.

Book report (10 points):
Write a report (2 - 3 double-spaced pages) on the book you have read.

Oral presentation (10 points):
You will be giving a short (5 - 10 minutes) speech, probably to a few other students and a teacher. You can choose to speak for or against anything you like.

Workshops (20 points):
To get your study points you need to participate in two of the four workshops that we offer. Which ones you come to is your choice, but we'll be happy to see you at all of them. They are all different, and we are sure that you would enjoy them and learn a lot from taking part. If you find it impossible to attend the workshops, contact your teacher.

Chat:
Chat is a new way of communicating. We recommend that you take part in at least one of the chat sessions that we offer during the course.

When you have passed all the assignments listed above you are ready to take the written test. Make sure that you report your planned date to the school in advance.
