Of special interest are the sites with development vocabulary wordlists and the sites that deal with financial vocabulary for NGOs. It is appropriate to end this section with a word of warning. The special vocabulary in a field becomes the short hand of the field. Words become loaded with meaning. Communication becomes efficient because professionals know what each concept means. There is a risk, however, that words become over-used or misused. Make sure when using words and concepts from the NGO vocabulary that you know what they mean and that they are not being used for their own sakes or in an effort to be “politically correct”. |
