In this unit you have been able to familiarize yourself with the most common meeting terminology and
phrases. The best advice, however, is to be observant and try to become sensitive to the procedures and the behaviour which are appropriate to the context in which you find yourself.
A course participant told me that he had been to a meeting in Southern Africa where a person kept
saying to him, “We have to get back to protocol”. It was months later after studying meeting terminology that he realized that the person was not referring to the minutes of the meeting (protokoll) which, in fact,
had not yet been written!
