Useful phrases



Howdy y'all....
Have a look at the phrases below and then try to find or think of some more useful phrases.

The important thing is to get the names correct of course, and then possibly explain a little about the other person, or mention something they have in common.

A common way to introduce somebody is simply to say:

"This is Becky and this is Andrea, I don't know if you two have met."

Or:

"I'd like you to meet my brother Peter, Andrea. This is Peter and this is Andrea. I believe you are both interested in parachuting."

Or you can explain a little:

"Oh, Andrea, this is my friend Becky from Albequerque that I told you about last week. And Becky this is my colleague Andrea."

Then you can leave them alone, for instance saying:

"I am sorry, I have to go check on the steak."

(That is if you are the host or hostess of course...)

If you recognize somebody at the other end of the room you can say:

"Excuse me, I have to go and say hello to my old teacher."

When you are going to leave it is appropriate to say that it has been a pleasure meeting somebody:

"It was nice meeting you."
"It has been a pleasure."
